Jim Poyer (Papa – Grandfather)

First fish, first trout

The photo was taken at my Uncle’s cabin near Johnstown, PA. It was about 1969 and I was 5 yrs old. My Papa (Grandfather) took me out fishing for the first time. I still remember the small stream fed pond where all the bigger cousins would fish. He thought me how to fish and more importantly, how to patiently untangle fishing line when it’s in a tree. I found this photo in a box my mother left me of old photos. She also gave me a fly wallet with his own hand-tied flies. I always carry one for good luck.
