A father, son and grandson story
The photo shows us approaching the Toorongo River in Australia where I live. It was my 71st Birthday treat with my son and his son on the latter’s first fly fishing expedition. As you can see, my son is anxious to get to the river first. My grandson is keen to know what is going to happen. I am explaining the difference between a dry fly and a nymph. He seems interested! Orvis hat, Orvis rods, Orvis reels, Orvis waders – all bought on a pilgrimage from Australia to Orvis in Manchester, Vermont a few years earlier. It was a tough day’s fishing on an overgrown river. We lost a few flies in the trees. We caught a few brown trout. And I broke the tip of my beloved Helios 2 rod. So glad that it was an Orvis rod with a 25 year guarantee. I packed it off to Manchester for free repair. A couple of months later it came back as good as new – on the day after Father’s Day which is in September in Australia, just in time for the opening of the new trout fishing season. Perfect timing. Thank you so much.
