My dad and I have always enjoyed walking together, especially in the mountains near my hometown in West Texas. Now that I’m grown and live away with a family of my own, our opportunities to hike with him are more rare, and for that reason feel more precious. This particular evening was especially pretty, with bright blue sky fading into soft pink and orange desert light as the sun started to set. My memory of that walk is sweet because we just soaked up the beauty around us and we’re glad each other’s company. My dad is a really special guy and his presence brings joy to everyone around him.
